Institute of Aerospace Thermodynamics, ITLR, Universität Stuttgart

As part of his research activities in subproject C02, Tobias Fuhrmann investigates the dehumidification of engine exhaust gases through condensation. In addition, the removal of the resulting condensate is to be achieved using porous structures. By reducing the amount of water vapor emitted from the engine, climate-damaging contrails can thus be mitigated.

Specifically, subcooled condensation probes are studied experimentally, which are exposed to a flow of heated, humid air. The influence of relative humidity as well as the degree of surface subcooling on droplet formation and their size distribution is analyzed.
